Inside the Mind of the Author

I always get asked what it’s like to be an author. Or where the stories come from. Or what’s actually going inside my mind. Well, since I write only erotic romance, you can imagine what goes through my head! All the scenes I have to write, how to make them work, how to build up to those very sensual moments, and then what happens after everything climaxes.
Not to mention the really interesting stuff like adding handcuffs to mix…
But in reality, my mind is pretty fun. I look at the story I’m writing and try to find ways to challenge the characters. When I was writing One Night Stand with the Rockstar, I didn’t want them to just jump into bed together. That’s not fun… well, okay, jumping into bed with Alex Slader IS fun… but I want more to it. I wanted to show how innocent Jessica really was. I pictured in my mind a scene where she’s at a piano and Alex Slader seduces her with the piano. It’s silent and sexy. They’re not even touching yet and he’s already got her where he wants her. And just as the scene climaxes, I saw Jessica walking away.
All this happened while I was unloading the dishwasher!
I saw Jessica leave and then I saw her contemplate on what to do. She decides to go back to Alex Slader for just one night though. Just one night.
Inside my mind I’m always searching for characters, plots, and settings. Even if I’m out in public – the grocery store, nail salon – I look at how people act and interact with each other and let my mind run with that to see where it ends up going. Of course, writing in erotic romance, my mind can get a little wild and a little steamy, but that’s okay… it’s all for the love the readers, right?
